As I was driving the other morning doing the early morning seminary and school drop offs, I saw a shiny red corvette. The sun wasn’t even up yet, but this baby shone. It was obvious that this car was somebody’s pride and joy.
That lead to me thinking about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. You know, the part where Cameron is going on about how much his Dad loves his car. He says, “He polishes it with a diaper.” That line popped into my head as I watched the ridiculously shiny red corvette.
Then I had an “a-ha!” moment: Cameron meant with a cloth diaper, not a disposable diaper.
Go ahead, laugh.
I should Confess right now that there are some jokes it has taken me decades to get. (Okay, this isn’t a joke, exactly, but you get the idea.)
All these years, I have pictured Cameron’s dad with a disposable diaper, and I never could figure it out. I thought Cameron was exaggerating and finding a creative way to say that his dad babied his car.
I’m slow, I know.
So the next time you watch Ferris Buller’s Day Off, or polish your car, picture me with a disposable diaper polishing my car.
